Black Stripe Double-Ended Steel Awl & Micro Chisel (Set of 2)

$110.00

This set of two includes:

Double-Ended Steel Awl: 6" x .25". A high-carbon steel tool with a sharp point at one end, a tiny ball at the other. This tool has been subjected to a decorative blackening, oxidizing process and ornamented with lines where some of the blackening has been polished off to show bright steel. The most often used tool in my kit. It is heat treated and comes in handy for scoring, ruling, burnishing, loosening threads, punching holes, enlarging holes, scribing and marking. Used by binders, conservators, printmakers and even by a fella who does work on antique ash trays!

If it gets wet, please dry thoroughly before storing, as it will rust if left damp. Should the point become dull it may be resharpened.

Micro Chisel: This small steel chisel has been subjected to a protective and decorative black oxidizing process. Some of the blackening has been polished off in lines to revel bright steel as stripes. The blade measures 3/16" and the over all length is 4.5".

The micro-chisel can be used on paper, leather, binder's board and wood. I made it originally for making consistently even slits into leather for weaving thin parchment strips for the decorative work on Late Coptic book binding models.

Made from high carbon tool steel, this chisel can be stropped and sharpened like any other. Please keep dry as it can rust.
