The Great Lakes roll and tumble freighters, sailors and rocks. Lake Michigan tosses perfectly smooth ovoid rocks on to the shore. When I lived on her shores, some rocks would come home in my pockets and bags. I have no explanation for why they receive this treatment, some engraved, all tightly wrapped in goat or calf parchment (made by my friends at Pergamena in upstate New York), except to say I just like the way they feel.

This little family of three pale rocks in tones of grey and cream are wrapped in goat skin parchment. The largest measures 2.25” by 1.25”, and is about .75’’ tall.

Though they come from the lake, please keep rocks dry, and out of reach of the dog, too.
